Gucci is the most uneven house on this list, which makes it the most interesting to buy second hand. A Marmont holds its number. A logo piece from a loud season may not.
Vintage Gucci has also come back hard. Pieces from the seventies and eighties that sat unloved for decades now move quickly, and they are often better made than what replaced them.
What we look at on a Gucci.
Serial tag and its stitching
The interior tag, its format for that era, and how it is attached. The stitching around a genuine tag is neat and consistent.
GG canvas registration
The pattern should be even and correctly placed across panels and seams. Misregistration is one of the more reliable tells.
Hardware and finish
Weight, plating and how the engraving is cut. Cast-and-polished fakes feel different in the hand from the real thing.
